Who we are

Our Ethos

Handfasting is an ancient tradition that has occurred independently across the globe in many cultures, from Asia to Ireland. It pre dates Christianity and in Ireland, due to its oral as opposed to written history, it is impossible to say how long this has been practiced and used as a symbol of unity, commitment and love.

Sustainability is a hugely important core value, present throughout our process. All our cords and silks are recycled. Our charms are made from locally sourced or found wood, scouring the parks for branches after a storm. Our packaging can be recycled.

Authenticity and tradition are also a core value. Each cord is truly bespoke to each couple, no two cords are alike as no two couples are alike. All our content is human produced, no AI or bot generation..

Who makes your cord?

That would be me, Hi, I’m Cathy

I have been making since before I can remember. My first business was in school, making earrrings and friendship bracelets for friends and family.

In a time before phones and the internet, also known to me as the 90’s, summers were spent weaving embroidery threads into intricate designs to be given out on return from holidays. I used to make short ones for my little cousins when threads were running low.

The threads gave way to fabric and after completing a degree in fashion in Dublin I entered the wonderful world of Costume Design and have worked in TV and Film for the past 20 years,

In 2025 one of my now not so little cousins was getting married and asked me to create the handfast cord for his ceremony, like I had woven so many friendship bracelets for him many moons before.

I was honoured to be asked but did not expect to enjoy the process as much and the history and tradition enchanted me.

So, here we are, me 30 years later with a drawer full of cords, head full of designs, waiting for your call to help you tie the knot…
